It is highly regarded as one of the UK’s most successful contemporary visual art and craft events and we are delighted to support their event, ensuring that through our combined work that Dumfries & Galloway remains on the map as a region of significant artistic importance.

Spring Fling 20 in 2022

Plus some evening openings, from Wednesday 1st June.

Spring Fling, Scotland’s premier Arts and Crafts Open Studios, is back in its full, real-world glory, and with special additions to celebrate its 20th event.

Across Dumfries & Galloway, 96 artists and makers will welcome visitors into their studios over the long Jubilee weekend of 2 – 5 June, showing everything from painting to metalwork to hats!

This marks Spring Fling’s return to being a physical-first event after two years in which it was largely or completely digital due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to the fabulous range of studios there are special additional features to mark this landmark 20th event.

There’s an exhibition at Gracefield Arts Centre in Dumfries which will show work from right across the history of the event – including a specially-commissioned short film by Colin Tennant capturing the spirit of Spring Fling,

And there is a selling exhibition at the Biscuit Factory, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, showcasing a carefully-curated selection of work from Spring Fling participants in a range of media.

There will be a special online artist’s talk with Amy Whiten of Recoat, looking at the story and the legacy of Spring Fling Rural Mural project, which paired international mural artists with local makers new to the practice. 7pm on Thursday 5 May via Zoom.

As a taster – or for those who cannot attend in person – online Virtual Studios will display the work and working methods of this year’s participants
